first (play)date, a photo essay

Beth here –

This past Sunday Abbey met Kaplan, well sort of. This was the first Sunday she realized he existed.

Lee and I were on nursery duty and documented the play date.

A little background first – Kaplan was born December 23rd making him a little older than Abbey. He enjoys smiling, drooling, and most recently rolling over. Though he may amaze you with those big eyes, Kaplan is most noted for his awesome thick hair – making even Jason Nichter blush.

Here we go –

The introduction

Kaplan inspected Abbey’s head, immediately noticing she has less hair than himself.

Abbey begins to blush…

Kaplan begins to contemplate his next move, seeing that Abbey has warmed up to him.

He extends his hand…

… she accepts. He seems so pleased with himself.

Seeing Kaplan’s initiative, Abbey shows her thanks in her own way (we hope she learns a little more discretion in church.)

Realizing that this is their first date, Kaplan rolls away. Abbey can’t seem to figure out what went wrong.

Instead Kaplan introduces Abbey to his daddy.

Abbey seems to be quite taken with Kaplan’s dad as well.

Kaplan insists his dad sing the “poop song.” He chooses not to realizing this could be damaging to his son to sing about bodily waste on the first date.

They next explore their favorite pastime…

…fortunately a thing they have in common.

Kaplan being the showboat that he is…

… tries to impress with his new trick.

He invites her to do the same…

…but she can’t.

Kaplan then begins to ponder their next activity.

Too much time passed and Lee had to intervene…

He suggests the train…

…but Abbey slid off.

Kaplan was disapointed.

Lee suggests a doll to no avail.

Lee tried to cheer him up and encourage him to renew his efforts with Abbey.

But she was ready for a nap.

Kaplan contemplated what to do in a situation like this.

Normally he could win a lady over with his eyes.

But Abbey was not havin’ it.

Lee tried to help his mojo…

…but it was too little to late.

Discouraged, Kaplan face planted.

The end.

I am laughing so hard I am crying. This is excellent! Kaplan thinks Abby was a very suitable date and he looks forward to seeing her next Sunday in said nursery. We’ll talk to him about the hand holding. He gets his smoothness from his dad.

That is fantastic! May have to steal the “photo essay” format for an upcoming post. Natalie hasn’t been scoping out the boys yet, but Miss Joanna has many beaus. Daddy better get a big ‘ol stick.
