from the hospital: abbey’s birth (1)

We are at the hospital (Jackson General) and in our delivery room.

Beth is gowned up and wired up.

The doctor said that she is effaced 60%, 2 centimeters dilated, with a -2 pelvic station.  If you don’t know what that means, it means that Beth is in the middle of the first phase of labor working her way towards active labor.

. . . . . . .

In another hour or so the doctor is going to reevaluate to determine if we need to augment the contractions with drugs.

The reasoning is that Beth’s water is leaking, and the “water” (really amniotic fluid) is a protective barrier for Abbey. The doctor won’t want to allow labor to take a really long time with the amniotic fluid leaking because it increases the risk of infections for Abbey.

If natural labor is taking too long they will introduce artificial hormones to crank up the intensity of the contractions and help get Abbey out quicker.

. . . . . . .

Beth is handling it like a trooper so far.  The contractions are painful, but bearable.  They are spaced out anywhere from 3.5 – 5 minutes apart.

They will only get stronger and faster from here! Keep praying.
