doctor: ‘see you next thursday, if you’re still pregnant’

Went to the doctor today to drop off Beth’s jug of urine from the past 24 hours.

Waited in the waiting room longer than I expected, but it was worth it:

Seriously, is there a better combination of good things to hear at the baby doctor?

  • Beth doesn’t have to urinate in a jug anymore
  • Abbey is smaller than the ultrasound seemed to have indicated
  • Beth’s body is prepping to labor, slightly dilated and effaced
  • The doctor walks out of the room with the words ‘see you next Thursday, if you’re still pregnant’ trailing her into the hall

. . . . . . .

Looks like “go time” is approaching, any advice for the new Mama and Papa?

We are packing our hospital bag tonight, any suggestions for things we need that we might not know about?

I was told that fathers most often pass out in the delivery room from lack of food. Pack so peanut M & Ms or some such to help Lee be totally present for this exciting event! Yeah Abbey!

Socks to keep Beth’s feet warm in a cold delivery room….

Lee should bring a book. No, seriously. But bring something you both would enjoy. After Sarah got some medicine for the pain, she was totally out of it for awhile. I read to her to distract her before she fell asleep, and then I think read some more while she was sleeping. What else are you going to do in a boring delivery room while your wife is sleeping?

Oh, and Sarah says she will email Beth ‘the list’ again, just in case. Its a list compiled by a very thorough PICU nurse who really knows how to pack!

“…dropped off the urine, which Beth was RELIEVED about…” Yep, that ’bout sums up the last 24 hours, huh?

Beth’s going to want some slippers. Also, go buy “Your Baby’s First Year: Week by Week” Read the first couple of weeks in the delivery room to focus on the coming days instead of the pain.

Bring your pillow Lee, a blanket for yourself, and expect to sleep terribly, those hospital chairs/couches are not comfy. It’s great!

Also, they might tell you that you need to stay 3 nights, they’re lying. With Calvin we left after one night, granted he was our 2nd. With Eli, we stayed 3 nights and it was way too long. Don’t stay more than 2 nights. And depending on when she is born, you could totally leave the following night. Babies are more fun at your own house.

    Praying that things go smoothly.
